Thermostat

The Backup Electric Heating Element in your solar tank is controlled by a thermostat and timer. When the timer is ON, the thermostat measures the water temperature in the tank. If they temperature is below the setting on the thermostat, electricity heats the tank water to the temperature you have selected. If the solar panels have heated the water sufficiently, no electricity will be used even though the timer comes on.
If you find the water temperature is too low (winter months, house guests, etc) you may increase the tank temperature by turning up the thermostat using the instructions above. Remember, the higher the setting, the more electricity is used, especially during winter months.
If adjustment is necessary, turn off the power to the water heater then remove the upper cover plate on the tank (see below). Lift off the fiberglass insulation exposing the thermostat. You will see the dial pointer and red reset button. Set the temperature dial pointer using a small screwdriver. The reset button protects against power surges or electrical overload. Always check to be sure it is set by pressing it in before replacing the cover.
