In 2005 AEI opened a branch in Maui to help it's residents take advantage of renewable energy solutions.
Our History
AlternateEnergy Inc. is a family owned and operated business. AEI's Founder Bruce Ekimura had a vision to provide a way for families in the State of Hawaii to lower their electrical bills by using alternative energy resources like solar hot water heating and photovoltaic (PV) systems. Given that Hawaii’s location is one of the top 10 states in the US for solar rating, Bruce jumped on the opportunity to become one of Hawaii’s leading provider for alternative energy resources. In 1993, AEI’s first Solar Technician team set out to achieve Bruce’s mission.

Today, with increasing energy prices due to climate change and oil hikes, AEI is ever more focused on providing quality services for its customers.
In 1999, AEI became listed as a HECO Approved Contactor (now the Hawaii Energy Efficiency Program) and since then has won back to back awards from Hawaiian Electric Company (HECO) acknowledging its acheivements in the number of Solar Systems installed.
Our Future
Currently, twenty-five US States now have renewable-energy standards and are required to incorporate a minimum percentage of their power from renewable resources.
We can see that the number of States with renewable-standards will keep growing as climate changes and the price of oil increases. With this in mind, we are seeking newer forms of alternative energy resources like affordable PV systems for residential consumers. For more information, please contact us here.
