Alternate Energy, Inc. (AEI) has been in business for more than 30 years; is a third generation, family-run business; and one of Hawaii’s largest solar photovoltaic providers.

Hawaii-Grown Roots

Locally Owned and Operated

More than 35 years ago, founder Bruce Ekimura, a plumber by trade, had a vision to help Hawaii families lower their rising electric bills through alternative energy resources. He and his father became early specialists in the installation of solar water heaters and photovoltaic (PV) systems. In 1993, Alternate Energy, Inc. was officially incorporated and has grown to be one of Hawaii's largest PV solar providers, serving home and business owners.

As a locally-owned and operated family company, we’re committed to giving back to our community and contributing to a better Hawaii. In 2013, AEI was named one of Hawaii’s Most Charitable Companies by Hawaii Business magazine. We continue to donate to local causes each and every year.

CSome of the local nonprofit organizations we support include Big Brothers Big Sisters, Bishop Museum, Susan G. Komen, Oahu SPCA, and Kapi'Olani Medical Center. We also support a number of public schools around the island.
