Alternate Energy Inc. (AEI) is celebrating its 20 th year in business by giving back to the community. The solar PV company is the $25,000 presenting sponsor of the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Honolulu Bowl for Kids’ Sake fundraiser, to be held Saturday, September 7 th and Saturday, September 14 th at Aiea Bowl.
This year’s event, themed “Yo Ho Pirate Bowl,” is the 27 th annual Bowl for Kids’ Sake. It aims to raise $350,000 for the organization’s youth mentoring programs statewide.
Bowl for Kids Sake is a unique, interactive fundraising concept. Each year, more than 1000 people come out with their families, friends and coworkers to participate in the fun. Teams of six bowl during a two-hour shift, while enjoying great food, entertainment and healthy competition. Participants raise money online or turn in pledges at the event and collect incentive prizes. In honor of the “Pirate Bowl” theme, all are encouraged to come dressed in pirate attire.
Bruce Ekimura, president and founder of AEI, is particularly enthusiastic about the event due to its outside-the- box approach to fundraising – Bowl for Kids’ Sake is a far cry from the traditional hotel dinner and silent auction formula.
Noting that everyone from CEO’s to front-line employees, Bigs (volunteer mentors) and Littles (mentees) can all be seen bowling next side by side for the cause, he said, “BFKS is an interactive, fun and participatory fundraiser that’s modeled after the kinds of activities Bigs and Littles get to do together on a regular basis. It also offers an unprecedented opportunity for AEI employers to build company morale while helping the kids in our community.”
